Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Timbunke and leaving the Sepik River

Timbunke wasn't an official visit. It is a much larger village with 2000 people living there. It was nice to explore a village that was acting naturally, going about its everyday business. We had a look at the clinic which does not have any doctors only nurses. If there is an emergency people have to be airlifted to the mouth of the river and regional capital Wewack. The clinic was run by one of the churches and is the only place we saw clothed carved figures.

The small light aircraft that was taking us to Goroka circled the grass runway and landed, our announcement to go to the departure gate. Just before we were about to depart a nun on a bicycle went passed, quite surreal.

Our flight to Karawari lodge was only 15 minutes. It was a low flight over the meandering Sepik River and Blackwater Lakes with George the vertically challenged pilot.
